Sociedad Hispana Doylestown es una organización sin ánimo de lucro, fundada en 2007, en el Condado Bucks, Pensilvania, y aprobada por el IRS 501(c)(3). La organización está dedicada al estudio y valoración de la cultura ibérica y latinoamericana, incluyendo el idioma español, su literatura y sus artes. Nuestro objetivo es promover su conocimiento transcultural.

I think it depends on the circumstances. If for example you encounter a Spanish speaker who is struggling to make himself understood in English, intervention in his language is appropriate and is likely to be appreciated. If on the other hand you comment on a private conversation (overheard, say, on the subway) and attempt to to participate, you may get the ccld shoulder, or perhaps something worse!
ResponderBorrarIn general, I believe it's a matter of judgement and common sense. In my experience Latin Americans are unfailingly courteous and happy to speak Spanish to non-native speakers. Spaniards, however, may be rather more brusque and less diplomatic. I hope I'm not opening a con of worms here.
I don't run into many spaniards, but I agree many latinos I run into seem to like it when I speak spanish, once they realize I am not migra! Nonetheless I think sometimes it is a bit to direct! For sure I learn about some of the countries I haven't had a chance to visit through these conversations.
