Hispanic Heritage Month

It seems there is something of interest going on in many places in the Delaware Valley to celebrate the tail end of Hispanic Heritage Month.  We previously linked the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Fiesta celebration, which can be found on the Sociedad Hispana Doylestown website here: http://www.sociedadhispanadoylestown.com/2011/10/big-brothers-big-sisters-of-bucks.html

Villanova University (Mainline Philly-Villanova, PA) celebrates José María Arguedas.  A complete program of seminars/events associated with the Peruvian poet can be found here:
       http://www.wix.com/snzekmi/arguedas#!program

Cultural events at Villanova happening concurrent with the celebration can be found here:
       http://www.wix.com/snzekmi/arguedas#!cultural-events

There will be a non-public showing of the movie  Soy Andina at Villanova.  The weblink for this movie, with trailer, can be found here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1372706/  There will also be a public showing of Soy Andina at UPenn Philadelphia.

Bucks County Community College is taking the opportunity to discuss immigration issues.  The BCCC program : " Immigration:  Myths and Realities" can be found here: http://www.phillyburbs.com/news/local/courier_times_news/bucks-county-community-college-to-host-forum-on-immigration/article_5346fa24-c09a-50ac-8462-ec9aeee496e6.html

I make an effort to speak to immigrants as a way to understand, and of course try to improve my ability to communicate in Spanish.  I have taught ESL, and my wife continues to teach ESL.  I enjoy meeting  Latino immigrants, and while not wanting to involve politics in this website,  I do believe we need an immigration policy.
