False or fickle friends ?

I continually have trouble using words in spanish that appear to have a similar cognitive meaning in english, but are frequently, as About.com explains in today's posting linked above, false amigos.
So close, but yet so far apart.  Any native spanish speakers care to comment as to whether or not you are able to interpret correctly english speakers improper cognitive usage of the spanish language?
