NATIONAL MUSEUM OF MEXICAN ART

The National Museum of Mexican Art should really be called the Museum of Mexican Culture.  It is located in the Pilsen section of south Chicago on 19th St, and is well worth a visit.  Mexican history, art and politics are all illustrated beautifully.

We made our second visit there recently coupled with a good lunch in one of the many neighborhood Mexican restaurants.  The South Side Chicago neighborhoods in succession after leaving the loop: first the Greek barrio (Halstead St), then the Italian neighborhood (Taylor St) then the Latino district (18th St)  and lastly Chinatown.

Cerámica/azulejos- La Tienda 3 day sale

Some of our favorite travel experiences have been shopping for cerámica while traveling in Spain, Mexico,  Italy and Portugal.  Some purchases have become family folklore as I bought oversized pieces inconveniencing fellow family travelers traveling  by taxi.

It is interesting to see how the lovely hand painted azulejos have changed over the years as the hand painted tiles slowly give way to more economical production methods.  The word azulejo is an Arabic derived word ( http://www.sociedadhispanadoylestown.com/2011/01/palabras-arabes-en-espanol.html )

The Hispanic Society of America A free museum and reference library

Nos gustó tanto nuestro visita al Hispanic Sociedad of America que tengo que colocar un enlace del sitio web.  Me sorprendió tanto las obras de Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida,  la ceramica, y el edificio en que se encuentra el museo.  Pienso que se queda uno de los museos de Manhattan guardando sus secretos-tal vez por causa de su ubicación en 155th Street.

La Lista Latina-Brooklyn Museum

Timothy Greenfield-Sanders es famoso por su trabajo fotográfico claramente detallado.   Sin duda alguna, no he visto retratos como los que se encuentren ahora en el Brooklyn Museo de Arte.  La exhibición se llama La Lista Latina, y consista en 25 retratos  de gente latina, en forma vertical.  Dentro de su estilo conocido, Greenfield-Sanders siempre entra en el mundo de la gente famosa.  Por ejemplo, entre los 25 retratos hay Eva Longoria,  Chi Chi Rodriguez, Sonia Sotomayor, America Ferrera, Gloria Estefan y Pitbull-todos en gran escala de 40X55 pulgadas.

Ademas Greenfield-Sanders es un cineasta de reputación global.   HBO pasará el programa The Latino List el día 29 de septiembre.  Durante ese documentario cada latino hablarán de su vida in los estados Unidos, y como su suceso ocurrió.
