The Wall Street Journal this morning has a good travel narrative on Uruguay in the adventure and travel section-to include food, the arts, and must see locales. Included is a short blurb about Eduardo Galeano (Open Veins of Latin America 1971), an Uruguayan author brought to my attention by my Bolivian language mixer friend Edil. Personality profiles of famous artists, musicians, and chefs are also noted. I spent one enjoyable evening in Montevideo as a teenager. It was a beautiful evening at a family run restaurant called Cicilio's. When not cooking, or waiting on tables, several of the family members provided singing entertainment. I have often wondered if the restaurant is still in business, with entertainment provided by the next generation of Cicilio's family!
For football enthusiasts: The first World Cup was held in Uruguay, with the host country taking the title.
