  1. Gurvich y Alpuy surgieron de ese taller donde El Maestro dictaba sus ''lecciones constructivas'' a aquellos afortunados que tuvieron la oportunidad de estar presentes en esos momentos tan emotivos.

  2. Joaquín Torres García was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1874.
He was the son of a Catalan father and Uruguayan mother. A pioneer of modernism and art theorist, Torres-García was also known as the founder of Constructive Universalism. His family moved to Spain in 1891 and decided spending some time in Barcelona. Torres-Garcia studied at the Escuela Oficial de Bellas Artes de Barcelona (the "Llotja") and at the Academia Baixas. He later travelled extensively, and lived for some time in New York, Paris, and Madrid. He returned to Uruguay in 1934.
By then he had become, along with Pablo Picasso and Julio Gonzalez, part of the bohemian milieu of the cafe Els Quatre Gats. In 1903 Torres-Garcia assisted Antoni Gaudi with stained-glass windows for the cathedral of Palma de Mallorca and later with the windows for the 'Sagrada Familia' in Barcelona. During this time, the artist also executed various mural commissions and developed a style of pastoral and monumental classicism derived from that of Pierre Puvis de Chavannes.
He had an interest in capturing the energy of the urban environment.
He is now probably Uruguay's most famous and celebrated artist. A foundation and museum are dedicated to him in downtown Montevideo. Torres-García died in 1949.
