San Miguel, Guanajuato, México

Hola Terry/Jane
San Miguel, Guanajuato, México, World Heritage site number 1274
San Miguel de Allende is one of those rare spots on the globe that I am looking forward to revisiting for the first time since 1968.  World Heritage sites  I have visited have always been worth the effort.

Also linked below is the the recent Conde Nast publication citing San Miguel as one of the best cities to live anywhere (thank you Miguel Matheson in Chicago). To quote from the magazine:

"San Miguel de Allende nabbed the No. 1 spot thanks to its "great atmosphere, excellent restaurants, culture and ambiance galore." The "lack of street lights and billboards" makes the region "romantically and historically beautiful, and the city itself offers a "traditional feeling of a small town in the heart of Mexico." "An amazing place to be."

The city lies 4 hours north of Mexico City and one hour from the beautiful colonial town of Guanajuato. It has been an artist colony since the 1930's when it was discovered by artists from abroad.  Painting was taught by famed Mexican artist David Alfaro Siqueiros.  Today there are two major art institutes, and many galleries among the colonial buildings dating from the 16th century.
