Placing Mexican History in a world history context

The marvelous website, Mexconnect, has posted a timeline of Mexican history which is linked above.  It is much easier for me to understand history when viewed in a larger context, perhaps this is also the case for you.

This post is made in conjunction with the upcoming Grito de Dolores, which celebrates the Mexican Independence from Spain in 1810, one hundred years prior to the Mexican Revolution.
